Urban Cone have been riding down the trail of success recently with a number of electronic-pop hits like “Freak” and their collaboration with Lucas Nord in “Let Us Stay Young“. These past couple of months the band have showed no signs of letting down, and their latest single “Kings And Queens” can help attest to that statement. Fun, quirky and captivating, “Kings And Queens” is just another fantastic Urban Cone single to put on the shelf, the only question is, ‘when’s about time we get an album?’.

It’s a pretty cutesy line from LA’s newest hipsters, who’s mystique keeps our attention solely on their music. Sweater Weather follows the release ofFemale Robbery in anticipation of the quintet’s debut EP ‘I’m Sorry’ released in May.
The Neighbourhood operate in a post-Lana world where retro is king - from the slide guitar sound, to the black and white videos (Female Robbery’s Hitchcockian imagery) and the final third of Sweater Weather that is more than a little suggestive of Chris Isaak’s Wicked Game. But this being 2012, that’s not all. It all begins with a pounding hip hop beat and the rhythms of the vocal delivery border on rap. It’s an irresistible and hypnotic fusion of styles that’s utterly ‘now’.
It’s the lyrics that tug at the heartstrings most though. Sexually-charged lines like “No shirt. No blouse. Just Us” depict teenage love with perfect economy of words. That central chorus lyric and its catchy melody are key though. Who says cool can’t be charming?
The Knocks have had a busy summer. From remixing Of Monsters and Men to playing All Things Go’s One Year Anniversary show, they’ve had their work cut out for them, to say the least. Fortunately for us, they show no sign of stopping. Their latest release “The Feeling” is a perfect end-of-the-summer jam that’s nothing short of anthemic. If you thought you had a hard time getting “Geronimo” out of your head, you’re in for a treat.
